The Hyvinkää Orchestra was officially founded in 1962 though it gave its first concert already in 1959. This purely amateur band has since developed into a professional orchestra that engages music teachers, orchestra musicians and freelancers, all for the love for orchestra playing. Orchestra has no vacancies but with the core of regular players it keeps developing and offering great musical experiences for the inhabitants of Hyvinkää and its neighbouring municipalities.

Hyvinkää Orchestra keeps concerts about once in a month. Three or four concerts for full orchestra (40–50 players) are given every year, the remainder of the events being smaller assemblys and chamber concerts.  Aarre Hemming, Jouko Koivukoski and Pentti Sistonen were among the conductors in the early years. Since 1988 the artistic director of the orchestra has been Tuomas Pirilä. Every year orchestra invites also several guest conductors and soloists. Visiting soloists in last years have included Olli Mustonen, Tami Pohjola, Helena Juntunen and Johannes Piirto

One of the guiding principles of the Hyvinkää Orchestra has been to include contemporary music regularly into the program. In 1999 the orchestra released a CD of works by Harri Vuori, Ernest Pingoud, Pentti Raitio and Kimmo Nevonmaa not previously recorded. The orchestra released a new recording in 2008 consisting of two new symphonies by Finnish composer Harri Vuori. The orchestra made its first visit to abroad, Hungary, in summer 2003. Hyvinkää Orchestra performs in the acoustically wonderful Hyvinkääsali.
